University policies
Use of generative AI must align with the university’s mission, vision, and values and comply with all state and federal laws and institutional regulations and requirements, including the university policies regarding:
- Acceptable use of information technology resources
- IT security
- Data classification
- Research data policies
Protect confidential data
Confidential data (data classified as “moderate” or above), may not be entered into any generative AI product unless the confidential data has been assessed and approved for such use in accordance with ISU’s data classification policy and other appropriate institutional compliance offices as applicable.
Confidential data may include, but are not limited to, non-public research data, export-controlled data, any information protected by intellectual property rights, financial records, human resources records, student records, medical information, and human subjects’ data.
Use generative AI responsibly
Review AI Generated Content Prior to Use
AI-generated content can be inaccurate, misleading, out of date, or may contain copyrighted material. You are responsible for any content including generated AI that you publish.
Understand Expectations
Be aware of applicable requirements and institutional guidance regarding the use of generative AI for writing support and cite use of generative AI appropriately.
